The bold expressionistic Preissig design is offered as a woodtype font to letterpress printers and collectors directly from Virgin Woodtype. This is the first time this font is available in wood type. The patterns for Preissig Scrape were produced as laser cut outlines which are then hand traced with a pantograph cutter for each piece of type. P22 Pressig Scrape was digitized in 1997 by Rich Kegler from samples of an alphabet designed and hand cut by Vojtech Preissig in 1914 for a book project that was never completed. The book called "The House" featured lino cut illustrations and the lettering reflected the angular and organic lines of the lino cuts. This is the second P22 venture into analog type. The first project from 2008 with Jim Rimmer as the first ever simultaneous release of a metal and digital font (Stern) proved that there is a serious interest in what some might consider obsolete formats. Stern in metal is no longer available, but the documentary film on the process of making that face is now available for order on DVD and select screenings. The digital version of Pressig Scrape and the Czech Modernist font set will be available from the P22 Type Foundry at a 25% discount for the month of March 2011. http://www.p22.com/products/czechmodernist.html Price: $22.00 - $470.25 |
