Craftsman Gothic

The history of making Craftsman Gothic extends back to 2011 when John Horn of Shooting Star Press in Little Rock asked VWT co-founder Bill Jones to make replacement letters. During that process John sent a print with Craftsman Gothic, and the unique A caught Geri's eye then. Fast forward to late 2015 when we were perusing John's specimens of his wood type and saw one for Craftsman Gothic, and Geri decided that she'd like to offer it. Of course, John agreed, so here you have it.

Although John Horn's font is marked with the Hamilton Wood Type stamp, he searched high and low but could not find it in any Hamilton catalog, so he coined the name himself. Some of the letterforms evoke the stylings of American Arts & Crafts movement, yet some don't. Either way, we like a good John Horn story, and this one doesn't disappoint.
