Modular Wood Type

Similar to American Type Foundry's Alpha-Blox in application, our Modular Wood Type is based on the 1920s Italian design, Fregio Mecano, whose designer is unknown. With this wood type, you can make alphabetic forms for letterpress printing.

The Modular Wood Type is a terrific creativity tool as well. The printer or student can use this system to make many versions of a letter, create patterns and imagery, and experiment with letterforms.

Available in three sizes and number of blocks: 133 blocks, 190 blocks and 240 blocks. Each set comes with spacing made from poplar. To examine the breakdown of shapes with each scheme, click on the specimen button at above left.
